Metroplan launches arkRide.com!
arkRide.com, the new web-based, ride matching service for central Arkansas commuters was publicly launched Wednesday, February 25th, at the Metroplan Board of Directors meeting. arkRide is being provided as a FREE public service by Metroplan in partnership with its member local governments, the Arkansas State Highway and Transportation Department, the Central Arkansas Transit Authority, and the Arkansas State Employees Association.
Below is a link to an arkRide information sheet suitable for widespread distribution to public or private sector employees and to students in the case of UALR & ITT. Metroplan states the arkRide ride matching service is quick, easy, and secure, and encourages employees and students in the case of UALR & ITT to try the state-of-the-art arkRide ride matching service. If an immediate match is not found, the arkRide system will automatically notify the prospective rider when a new arkRide user matches their commuting profile. Metroplan hopes to build the regional database of arkRide users to a level where most commuters in central Arkansas will be able to find a rideshare partner online in real time. Anyone over the age 18 is eligible to become an arkRide user as long as they have either an origin OR a destination in Pulaski, Faulkner, Lonoke or Saline Counties. Metroplan suggests that most work commuters register with arkRide using their work email so they can more easily find a co-worker with whom to share a ride.

Wampus Cat Roundabout . . . . .
Are you ready for ROUNDABOUTS?
As many drivers and others are aware, the city of Conway in recent months completed construction of its first roundabout as part of the city street system. Another is in process at Bob Courtway and Siebenmorgen. And more are coming. One is planned for Western Avenue at Prince Street and two are slated for Harkriderone at its intersection with Siebenmorgen and the other at Winfield. If you would like to prepare yourself for the roundabout experience or just become more knowledgeable about roundabouts, follow this link http://www.mnltap.umn.edu/publications/videos/ModernRoundabouts/ to a video produced and funded by the Minnesota Department of Transportation (Mn/DOT) and the Local Road Research Board (LRRB). Another informative video from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety can be found at http://www.iihs.org/research/qanda/roundabouts.html.
