Refuse Collector

SUMMARY
Collects refuse (garbage and/or recyclables) at
curb of residence and/or commercial locations on designated route within municipality.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Essential duties and responsibilities include
but are not limited to:
The gathering and carrying
of bundled yard waste, refuse containers and/or refuse bags and from individual
yards or locations along route and dumping the refuse onto a refuse truck.
The operation of a
hoisting device attached to rear of a refuse truck in order to raises refuse
bins for dumping.
The sorting of recyclables
including newspaper, white office paper, magazines, plastic, steel and aluminum
cans.
The gathering of
separated recyclable materials and dumping them into recycling bins on garbage
truck.
Unloading and
cleaning garbage truck at dump site.
The daily preparation
of a refuse truck for daily route.
The performance of general
housekeeping duties at and around department facilities.
SUPERVISORY
RESPONSIBILITIES
This is a non-supervisory position.
QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or
EXPERIENCE
Less than high school education; or up to one
month related experience or training; or equivalent combination of education
and experience.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read and
comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to
write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information.
MATHEMATICAL
SKILLS
No specific math skills are required.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to apply
common sense understanding to carry out simple task.
