About the Mayor
A native of Conway, Tab was a 1979 honor graduate of Conway High School. In 1984, he received a degree from the University of Central Arkansas in political science with a minor in economics. While at UCA, he served four years in the Student Senate, including terms as student body president and treasurer. Also at UCA, he was selected as one of five Outstanding Students in 1983 and was named co-recipient of the Outstanding Political Science Student Award in 1984. He received a master of business administration degree from Texas Christian University in 1986.
He joined Townsell-Hill Construction Inc. in Little Rock in 1988, working in all phases of the business culminating in estimation and project coordination. In 1992, he and his brother Todd joined their father as co-owners of Concrete Forming Inc., a sister company to Townsell-Hill.
Prior to his election as mayor, Tab was involved in many government and community affairs. He served on the Conway Planning Commission (1993-1995). In that capacity he spoke to numerous civic groups and organizations on planning issues and planning reform, including the annual conference of the Arkansas Chapter of the American Planning Association. He has also served on Conway's Transportation Advisory Committee (1992-1993) out of which came many of the suggested street improvements targeted by the recent bond issue. Tab also served on the first Transportation Advisory Committee (TAC) of Metroplan—the long-range planning body for the Little Rock Metropolitan Statistical Area—as one of Conways three representatives (1993-1995). The TAC was charged by federal ISTEA ("ice tea") legislation with developing an area wide transportation plan that was financially constrained to available monies.
Additionally, he is a graduate of the Faulkner County Leadership Institute (1993). By virtue of his position as mayor, he is a member of the Conway Area Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors. He will also serve as an ex-officio member of the Main Street Board after completing a year on its Economic Restructuring Committee.
Previously, Tab worked for Senator Dale Bumpers as a summer intern in Washington D.C. between years at graduate school (1985). He also traveled to Germany in 1990 as part of a six-week Group Study Exchange Program sponsored by Rotary International through the Conway Rotary Club.
Tab enjoys golf, history, fly-fishing, poetry and reading.
